National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC)
Information on Intake
The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) was established in 1930 at Howard University as a national coordinating body for the nine historically African American Fraternities and Sororities, which had evolved on American College and University Campuses by that time. These organizations do not participate in formal recruitment, but each holds its own Membership Intake Process (MIP). These organizations did not then nor do they now restrict membership to African Americans. Each chapter has its own requirements and recruitment/intake process during the semester. Pledging is not a pre-requisite to membership. Each organization will explain their membership process at their initial interest meeting. Generally, each organization requires community service experience, leadership abilities, a 2.5 cumulative grade point average and at least a semester completed at TCU. Lastly, HAZING IN ANY FORM IS PROHIBITED. The NPHC and its affiliate organizations have reemphasized our stand against any form of hazing in the membership development and intake process.
